Mariana Barúa is senior associate attorney of Fischer & Schickendantz (, one of Uruguay’s leading law firms. Both a lawyer and an LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree holder, she provides legal advice in the firm’s corporate Department, advising multinationals and individual investors in foreign direct investments in real estate developments, acquisition of local companies, agricultural enterprises and privatizations, among others.

In her ten years as a corporate attorney, Mariana has accumulated experience in a vast array of deals (local as well as cross-border).

Mariana graduated from the University of Lima in 2004, in 2008 she made a postgraduate course in the Academy of American and International Law (Dallas, Texas). Afterwards she obtained an LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree from the University of California – Davis School of Law, and finally, in 2010 she validated her law degree at the University of the Republic of Uruguay. Therefore, currently Mariana is admitted to practice law both in Peru and in Uruguay. On 2013 Mariana was ranked by Chambers & Partners as leading individual (Corporate/M&A). Mariana is fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

Mariana was born in Lima and besides Uruguay, has lived in Lima, Santiago de Compostela, Texas and California. His overseas work experience spans deals in the United States and several countries of South America.

She lectures in the Catholic University of Uruguay and in the University of the Republic of Uruguay, on law of Obligations and Contracts. She has published several articles and has been co-author of several books.
